The Tampa Bay Rays were admitted to Major League Baseball in the course of the expansion in 1998. They became the second MLB team from the Sunshine State of Florida. They go, in the American League East Division on the hunt for the coveted World Series title.

Despite the still very young history, a lot has changed over the years with the franchise. Started in 1998 under the name Tampa Bay Devil Rays, with the colorful ray logo, the motif has remained, but the name has changed. While under the old name Devil Rays, they wanted to be more reminiscent of the animals native to Florida, under the current name the Rays is referenced to the sun rays that break through in the Sunshine State.

Thus, the Rays logo, as a primary design has been replaced, but is still a popular motif on the caps. The team colors are now navy blue, white and gold. In these colors, the large blue Rays, with a golden glow to represent the Florida sun rays, is emblazoned on the home and away jerseys. The most recognizable logo on the caps, however, is the white TB, which has been used since 2008.

The Ballpark, where the Rays play their home games, has remained constant. Since the beginning in 1998, Tropicana Field has been their home. Tropicana Field, has some special features because it is an enclosed ball park with a roof, which means the players play indoors. Another special feature is the location. While the Rays have the name of the city of Tampa in their signature, the ball park is located in St. Petersburg, making it difficult to get to for games during the week due to rush hour.  This is also one of the reasons why fans only sparsely find their way to the Rays, forcing them to reduce the stadium capacity to 25,000.

Although the Tampa franchise has yet to win a World Series title, they did participate in the World Series in 2008 and 2020. These successes are a credit to the team, because traditionally the Tampa Bay Rays have always had one of the lowest budgets in the entire MLB. This has been achieved through an incredibly good scouting and farm system consisting of minor league teams Durham Bulls, Montgomery Biscuits, Bowling Green Hot Reds and Charleston RiverDogs. These provide a steady stream of new talent that keeps the franchise competitive despite less than ideal economic conditions.
