The Kansas City Royals, are one of two Major League Baseball teams from the state of Missouri.  Founded in 1969, they have been competing in the American League ever since, as a result of the league's expansion that same year.

The name Royals came about as a tribute to the many celebrations held each year from September - November under the name American Royal in Kansas City.

Since their almost 60 years of existence, the Kansas City Royals have experienced ups and downs. The absolute highlight was 16 years after their founding. In the 1985 season, they reached the World Series for the second time. There the local rival from Missouri waited with the St. Louis Cardinals.

In a thrilling series, Kansas City rallied from a 1-3 series deficit to force the all-important Game 7. Led by Royals Hall of Fame legend George Brett, they also won Game 7 6-2, lifting the trophy for the first time in history. This triumph was the beginning of the great rivalry between the Cardinals and the Royals.

But there were also hard times in Kansas City, and they began right after the World Series in '85, because it would take until the 2013 season before the Royals qualified for the playoffs again. Two years later, in 2015, they were on the throne again and currently for the last time in their history.

The Kansas City Royals would not have made it this far without Ewing Kauffman, the franchise's founder and first owner. That's why the Royals' home has been called Kauffman Stadium since 1993.

Opened in 1973, Kansas City went its own way. The step to build a pure MLB ballpark at that time was very unusual, but in the long run it turned out to be a good investment, because while many teams had to rebuild over the years and decades, Kansas City only renovated. "The K" is the 6th oldest ball park and the only one in the American League which is named after a person.

When you sit in the ball park, you immediately notice the large homeplate video wall in the shape of one. A homeplate in blue together with the golden crown and the interlocking KC in white also forms the primary logo. The interlocking KC, in a variety of colors, has served as the official on-field cap since its inception. In combination with the Royals lettering, it also often appears as an alternate logo. Exactly this Royals lettering, can be seen on all jerseys, the "Blue Crew".

The franchise has always been able to count on the support of their farm system over the years. The minor league teams Omaha Storm Chases, Northwest Arkansas Naturells, Quad Cities River Bandits and Columbia Fireflies are important pillars for the education of the players and lay the foundation for success.
