The Washington Redskins were founded in 1932 as the Boston Braves. After being renamed Boston Redskins a year later, the team moved to Washington DC, the capital of the United States, in 1937. But it wasn't until the 80s that the big success was supposed to happen. Quarterback Joe Theismann, protected by the O-Line called "The Hogs", led the Washington Redskins to their first Super Bowl success. After Theismann had to end his career due to an injury, Doug Williams took over the job as starting QB and led the franchise in 1988 as the first black quarterback to the next Super Bowl victory. Mark Rypien was the third QB to lead the Washington Redskins to their last Super Bowl success in 1991. Since then, the team from the capital has sunk in mediocrity. Neither the rookie of the year Robert Griffin III, nor Kirk Cousins could build on the franchise's old successes. The new quarterback Alex Smith was injured so badly that his career was in danger. In 2019, rookie Dwayne Haskins took over as QB, trying to get Washington back on the road to success.

The team colors of the Washington Redskins are burgundy and golden yellow. Most Washington Redskins are either red or classic black. The current logo on caps is most often used. Since 1982 it has shown a brown Indian head in a yellow circle and two feathers on the side. Before that there was a red R in the middle of the circle instead of the head. From 1965 to 1969 the franchise used a yellow and white arrow with a feather. Before that there were variations of the Indian head.
