The Charlotte Hornets came to the NBA in 1988 as an expansion team. With their unusual team colors, the pin-striped jerseys that were hardly used until then and the striking logo, they immediately attracted the public's attention. With players like Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning, the Hornets were able to move into the playoffs in 1993. Players like Glen Rice or Baron Davis were then unable to bring the hoped-for success to Charlotte and so the Hornets gradually sank into insignificance. In 2002 they had the fewest spectators in the NBA and so the team was relocated to New Orleans. In 2004 a new team was accepted into the NBA with the Charlotte Bobcats. However, despite co-owner Michael Jordan, this team was never able to meet expectations. When the New Orleans Hornets changed their name to Pelicans in 2013, the Bobcats changed their name back to Hornets in order to reconnect with the glamor of old times. The team colors were changed back to turquoise / purple and the hornet logo was modernized. Despite superstar Kemba Walker, the new Charlotte Hornets were never able to celebrate great success and so the upheaval was initiated in 2019 and the star was traded to Boston.

The color of the details of this logo was adjusted when the company moved to New Orleans. When returning to Charlotte in 2015, they deviated from the mascot Hugo the Hornet and created a more modern version of the hornet, which is now shown frontally and the team name can be seen on a plaque in the middle. The ball and the sneakers are completely missing in the new logo and the hornet also looks much more aggressive.
