The Los Angeles Clippers were founded in 1970 as Buffalo Braves. After playing for the first few years in the state of New York, they moved to San Diego in 1978 and named themselves Clippers because of the sailing ships that were common there. Just 6 years later, billionaire Donald Sterling bought the team and decided that the franchise would become the second team in Los Angeles alongside the Lakers. In 2014 he had to sell the team after a racism scandal at the urging of the NBA. Since then, the former Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer has been the owner. The Clippers play their home games at the Staples Center in Downtown L.A. and share the arena with the Lakers. As Buffalo Braves, the team had the league MVP in their ranks in Bob McAdoo. During their time in San Diego, the team was one of the worst in the NBA. Real stars were a rarity with the Clippers. It was only with the trio of Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin that the Clippers became popular through the Lob City style of play under coach Doc Rivers. But when the big success still failed to materialize, all three stars gradually switched to other teams. With a young squad, the Clippers were able to score honorable successes and signed the final MVP of the preseason Kawhi Leonard together with all star Paul George in the Free Agency 2019. Since then, the team has been considered one of the best in the NBA and has also sold a lot of Los Angeles Clippers caps since then.
