The Los Angeles Angels joined as one of two new teams during the first major league expansion in 1961. They have been part of the American League ever since.

Angels in Anaheim

. Baseball has a long history in Los Angeles. It began well over 70 years before the L.A. Angels were founded. But the desire for a Major League team was to remain unfulfilled at first. The name was chosen in reference to another franchise that played in the Pacific Coast League under the Angels name. Although the team has the city of Los Angeles in its name, its time in the City of Angels was brief. From 1962 to 1965, the Angels were subtenants in the Dodgers' ball park. Due to the high rent and fear of not being able to build a fan base of their own, then-owner Gene Autry began looking for a new location. An agreement was reached with the city of Anaheim, southeast of Los Angeles. A new ball park was built, which became the Angels' home in 1966. The change in location also resulted in a name change. The team became the California Angels. But investors, owners and even the city had other desires. In 2016, they agreed on the current name, Los Angeles Angels.

Long dry spell

. In terms of sports, the franchise had to go through many tough years. It wasn't until 1979, 18 years after its founding, that the Angels reached the playoffs for the first time. There, they lost 1-3 to the Orioles in Round 1. Another 23 years later, the Angels decided a postseason series for the first time and got the most out of that season in 2002. They beat the New York Yankees 3-1 and advanced to the World Series by defeating the Minnesota Twins 4-1 in the series. In a dramatic series, the Angels were already down 2-3, trailing 5-0 Bottom 7th inning in Game 6. However, a power effort by Darin Erstad, Tim Salmon and the rest of the team turned the game around and the Angels won Game 6 6-5. They also prevailed in Game 7 4-1 and were able to hoist the World Series trophy afterwards. The Angels became the first winning team to come from the AL East Division since 1991. And they did so in the only World Series the Angels have participated in to date.

Great training success

. After their move from L.A. to Anaheim, the team has remained loyal to its Angel Stadium. It is the fourth-oldest stadium in MLB and seats nearly 45,000 spectators. A characteristic feature is the newly installed rock structure that can be seen in the left outfield. The upper seats not only offer a good view of the field, but also a sweeping view of Orange County. Primary logo of Los Angeles Angels is a big A with halo. It can be seen on the on-field caps as well as being a visible landmark at the stadium. The angel theme is also used on other logos. In addition to the primary logo, the interlocking letters CA with angel wings have also become famous. The team from Anaheim has achieved what many teams dream of: with Mike Trout, they have managed to draft a talent of the century. Trout is considered by many experts to be one of the best players of all time. The Angels' farm system with its good training played a major role in this. By the way, this is in the hands of the following minor league teams:

  • Salt Lake Bees
  • Rocket City Crash Pandas
  • Tri-City Dutt Devils
  • Inland Empire 66ers
