The Utah Jazz were founded in 1974 as the New Orleans Jazz. The name was chosen because of the local musical style and was not changed when the Jazz moved to Salt Lake City in 1979. The Jazz's first star was immediate local hero Pistol Pete Maravich, whom the Jazz signed from the Atlanta Hawks. Pistol Pete provided highlights and lots of points, but not team success.

The lack of success, the lack of commitment from fans and domestic sponsors, and the high taxes ultimately caused the franchise to fold in New Orleans. In the 80s the team was led by Adrien Dantley and in 1982 the Jazz even drafted Dominique Wilkins. However, the latter refused to play in Utah, so he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. In 1984 John Stockton was drafted and in 1985 Karl Malone. Thus was born the later legendary duo Stockalone, who was largely responsible for the Jazz reaching the NBA Finals in 1997 and 98. However, both series were lost 2-4 to the Chicago Bulls around Michael Jordan. The duo of Stockton and Malone ended in 2003, when the point guard ended his career at 41 and Malone signed with the Lakers for one more year.

The Jazz, on the other hand, attempted a rebuild that consistently brought playoff appearances, but nothing more. Currently, they are trying to build a strong team around the duo of Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.

What colors and logos are most popular on Utah Jazz caps?

The team colors of the Utah Jazz are currently blue, gold and green. Therefore, most current Utah Jazz caps are blue or black, classic ones are also sometimes purple. The logo features Jazz lettering, with the J consisting of a note with a basketball. Above it is the city name. This logo is based on the original 1975 logo, but that still had New Orleans on it and the team colors were purple instead of blue. Between 1997 and 2015, they used a 3D logo with JAZZ lettering bent in perspective, standing in front of a basketball that becomes mountain peaks above. This logo was changed 2 more times when the Jazz changed their team colors to light blue and finally to green. Both the current Utah Jazz logo and the one with the mountains are often used on Utah Jazz caps.

What cap styles are most popular for Utah Jazz caps?

The Jazz had their heyday in the late 90s, so many fans wear the snapback caps that were popular during that time.
